It's in a Gesture

In a touch, true tenderness is revealed. But to reveal it, we must see it first.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I recently had the great pleasure of working with Darcy Miller Nussbaum, the Senior VP and editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings. Darcy needed some last minute shots for a Thanksgiving story she had put together for Good Morning America. Darcy chatted about tablescapes on the morning show, and these complimenting images circulated the blogosphere in a major way over the subsequent few days! They ran on the GMA site, Martha Stewart Living, Martha Stewart Weddings, Apartment Therapy, L'il Sugar, and Darcy's Pinterest Board (as well as my own).
Thanks for all the great press, Darcy!
I shot all of these images digitally with daylight.

Ayla and Emlen's Wedding in BRIDES

It truly is the best when two of your best friends marry each other. Emlen went to business school with my husband and Ayla is my dear girlfriend who I met through work. Soon after my husband and I started dating, these two met and voila! A perfect match was made! Within weeks, we knew they would get married and what a wonderful wedding it was!
Ayla would have looked beautiful had she worn a paper bag to her wedding, but instead she decided to wear a blush pink Monique Llhulier gown with snakeskin Manolos. They had a quaker ceremony filled with heartfelt wishes, followed by a family-style luncheon, an a capella serenade, and a confetti departure!
This last shot ran in the November 2012 issue of Brides Magazine as the entire back page of the issue. This "outtake", as Brides calls it, is one of my favorite candids from the wedding. It is shot with one of my Nikon 35mm cameras, on 3200 speed film. This departure was so fast (and unannounced) that I shot as many frames as I could with the hope that I would capture something worthwhile. The out-of-focus bride and the snow-shower of confetti demonstrate the chaos of the moment. If it were all sharp it wouldn't be nearly as exciting!

Fall Update!

A new season, a new look! Bring on the cool weather, changing leaves, and marshmallow roasting because I love fall! And I've updated my homepage to be a little bit more seasonally appropriate.
The Country section also got a full makeover, so take a look!

Brides Magazine: Bridesmaids in White!

Leave it up to Violet, the Senior Fashion Editor at InStyle.com to turn tradition on its head when dressing HER bridesmaids! This bride put her girls in none other than.. WHITE! Each bridesmaid had a different dress- most embellished with some sort of sequin or glam detail. And by keeping all of the bridesmaids in short dresses, it helped her long gown to stand-out!

The Shirt: Fall Collection

I had a lot of fun shooting the fall lookbook for The Shirt! It was a full day with quick outfit changes and an amazing model. These shirts have a trademark design with extra hidden buttons so that they don't gape open at the bust. I was going for an effortless, carefree, and super sexy look! This was all shot with my Nikon D3, with just some minor color correction.

Alison & Nate

This weekend I shot Alison and Nate's wedding in Saratoga Springs- it was a horse-filled weekend with a wedding reception plus polo demonstration, followed by a Day at the Races on Saturday. It was so much fun! And Saratoga is such a beautiful and special place in the summertime. Those photos will have to come later... but in the meantime, take a look at one of my favorites from their engagement portrait.
We took a handful of more posed shots, but at the end of our session I took a few just like this- the people in the background make it look like I've just caught a couple nuzzling in the park- and I kind of did! This shot was taken with my Contax 645, on color 400 speed film, then transferred to black and white in post.
